Embracing Spontaneity: Breaking Free from Familiarity
Imagine going after something you’ve only dreamed of. The idea of it can feel so possible, yet so terrifying in many ways. It's probably the easiest yet hardest decision anyone can make, but you always have the power of choice. Spontaneity is in everything. Whether you choose to change your lifestyle, leave a relationship, take a trip, or risk an investment, you’re choosing to change in that very moment. Choosing change and new experiences feels unfamiliar, yet it’s such a fundamental part of living. Spontaneity is also about going with the flow of your inner desires, which is why the spectrum can be so wide.
Change gravitates toward you at the exact time you need it most. Change often arrives when you need more spiritual growth and lessons to move through. It’s inevitable. This is when spontaneity can come in handy. You are choosing to follow your inner impulse to do something out of the ordinary. You don’t let your overthinking tendencies sway your decision. When you choose to follow your inner instinct, you are choosing to trust in yourself and in life. It’s quite extraordinary, and it’s something that should be praised in our everyday lives, especially considering how everyone has been conditioned.
However, there’s science behind why humans like familiarity. It takes less mental effort to process interactions and experiences when encountering something or someone familiar. Spending your day surrounded by your favorite food, your beloved pet, or a caring partner is healthy for your daily life. But what’s needed is balance. You deserve to live at peace.
What isn’t healthy is limiting your life experiences based on familiarity and comfort. Not everyone is destined to live a curious life, but once you tap into your inner desires, you’ll realize you crave more out of life. Surrendering to your desires is a skill that will elevate your life. Why not surrender and expect only good to come from your decisions? Keep in mind that some desires are there to distract you, so it’s important to distinguish which ones are guiding you, and which ones aren’t. The biggest indicator is the fulfillment and energy you feel after an experience.
To start analyzing the energy you feel, you must first become very aware of how every experience is designed specifically for you. It’s no wonder that the world operates in alignment with you. Most experiences — especially the simplest ones — hold so much joy and clarity. The more you relax, the more energized you become. The more you allow yourself to slow down, whether it’s for 15 minutes a day or an hour, the more you can appreciate your current life. The more you appreciate and thank everything around you, the more you’ll thank yourself and the power of your mind. Your curiosity will flow back into your life.
Why exactly would you want to live a more spontaneous life filled with new experiences? Don’t get me wrong — if living simply in comfort and familiarity brings you peace, that’s beautiful in itself. I truly appreciate people who can grow and build in the environment they grew up in; that takes courage. But if you’ve stumbled upon this post, it’s no coincidence that there’s a spark in you. When you feel lost within yourself and when familiarity feels unfamiliar, your soul is probably craving new experiences. Listen to yourself and your intuition. Most of the time, all the answers and paths are clear and right in front of you.
Create the decisions for yourself. Pick one, and finally follow through with it, because life starts once you start living. Opening yourself up to spontaneity also leads to deeper connections with others and improved relationships, not only with others but with yourself. How beautiful is it to have a complex and curious mind? To speak from personal experience you’re proud of and connect with deeper parts of the people you meet? Seek parts of yourself not only in yourself, but in everything around you that’s waiting for you to take a leap towards it.
Everything you want, wants you more.
